Michael started his ‘entrepreneurial’ life just before his 40th birthday in 2002 when he established JFFG after spending nearly 20 years as an employee in a number of multinational food companies in Ireland and the UK. He has held the Managing Directors’ roles at Kellogg’s (UK/Ireland), Fox’s Biscuits and Evian/Volvic (UK/Ireland). Earlier in his career he held marketing roles at a number of food businesses, including as Marketing Director of Cantrell & Cochrane and Jacob’s Ireland and Brand Manager at Batchelors and Green Isle Foods. He graduated with a B.Comm. and Masters in Business Studies from UCD and is a fellow of the Marketing Institute of Ireland.
Michael is also a Non-Exec Director of the Consumer Foods Board of Bord Bia, a Chairman of Traidlinks (an NGO set up by the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs working in Sub Saharan Africa), and Chairman of the board of the Marketing Institute of Ireland and Chairman of the Soul of Haiti Foundation.
Michael won UCD Smurfit School ‘Alumnus of the Year’ in 2010. He won the Irish ‘Ernst & Young’ Industry Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2005, the Bord Bia Food Entrepreneur of the Year in 2004, and the Sunday Times Management Excellence Award in 2003.
