EOY 2017 – Open For Nominations!

Now in its 20th Year, the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ (EOY™) 2017 programme officially opens today for nominations. The theme of this year’s programme is “Leading through Change” and all sectors and businesses of all sizes are invited to submit their nominations up until the 22 February. The 24 finalists for 2017 will be announced on 27 April.

Kevin McLoughlin, Partner said: “I am delighted to launch the 2017 EOY programme, which I am incredibly proud to say is in its 20th year. The benefits of participation extend far beyond winning the award in October.  The successful finalists will gain national and international exposure, gaining media profile across TV, radio, print and online.  They will also connect with our exclusive network of over 450 of Ireland’s top entrepreneurs and get an opportunity to go on our renowned international CEO Retreat which is designed to help Irish entrepreneurs transform their thinking and vision through executive education and hearing from some of the world’s leading CEOs.”

He continued: “As we are witnessing unprecedented change in the business and political landscape both at home and globally, the theme of this year’s programme is “Leading through Change” and at EY we see it as our responsibility to help finalists take advantage of these challenges and uncertainties so they can continue to grow and maximise their potential.”

Who can be nominated?

Operating in more than 60 countries worldwide, EOY is recognised as the most prestigious business accolade for entrepreneurs. The programme is open to entrepreneurs across all sectors and growth stages, across the island of Ireland. The awards programme is divided into three categories – Emerging, Industry and International – with 8 finalists chosen per category. The 24 finalists will be selected by an independent panel of judges, comprised of former EOY winners and chaired by Anne Heraty of CPL Resources plc. Individuals who wish to put themselves forward or nominate an entrepreneur with their consent, can fill out the online nomination form at www.eoy.ie or call the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ team for further information on 01 221 2250.  The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, 22nd February 2017.

Speaking at the launch, CEO of CPL Resources plc, chairperson of the judging panel, and winner of the EOY programme in 2006, Anne Heraty said “I’m really excited about entrepreneurship here in Ireland and the ability of indigenous Irish companies to scale.  Since coming on board as Chairperson of the EOY judging panel it is becoming more and more difficult to select winners across each of the categories given the calibre.  In particular the emerging category is getting increasingly competitive.  I’m looking forward to see what 2017 has in store and celebrating 20 years of entrepreneurship through this fanatic programme.”

Last year saw a strong mix of male and female finalists across eight different sectors who collectively employed over 3,000 people and generated revenues in excess of half a billion euro in 2016. Brendan Mooney, CEO of Kainos Group plc emerged as the overall winner at the 2016 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Awards and will go on to represent Ireland at the World Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Awards in Monte Carlo in June. Property development and investment company Green Property took top prize in the Industry category, while media monitoring company NewsWhip won top prize in the Emerging category.

Kevin McLoughlin said: “Over the years the programme has become more and more diverse across all sectors and I was delighted to see five very strong female finalists come through last year.  I would strongly urge entrepreneurs across all industries and backgrounds particularly female entrepreneurs to nominate themselves this year to reflect the wide range of talent here on the island of Ireland.”

What finalists can expect

The finalists will engage in a strategic growth programme over a 10 month period which includes a week-long CEO Retreat to San Francisco. As part of this international retreat, this year’s 24 finalists will join a group of over 120 entrepreneurs, all previous finalists and winners of EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ programme where they will meet CEOs and entrepreneurs from some of the world’s biggest multinational companies.

Entrepreneurs will also gain exclusive access to a prestigious community of over 450 peers known as the EOY Alumni. To date, 55% of our EOY community have conducted business with one another – demonstrating the advantage of being part of this supportive and prolific professional network.

The programme will also include executive education sessions, a peer-to-peer mentoring forum ‘Entrepreneurs Anonymous’ and filming for our TV series and annual Gala Awards Dinner, profile in the Irish Times and Newstalk. An award is presented for each category, and an overall winner is announced as the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Awards in October.  That person will go on to represent Ireland at the World Entrepreneur Of The Year awards in Monte Carlo in June.
