Patrick J Rigney is the Founder & Owner of The Shed Distillery of PJ Rigney, the first distillery in Connacht in over 101 years & the Curious Mind behind Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin & The Shed Distillery brands.
For three decades, the drinks industry pioneer has been instrumental in establishing Irish drinks brands as global leaders, including the world’s number 1 selling liqueur brand – Baileys – during its formative years. As Executive Director, Rigney went on to invent the (then-revolutionary) twin-bottle Sheridan’s Irish Cream Liqueur & he became known across the industry as a creative entrepreneur with an unpredictable ‘maverick’ edge.
PJ’s entrepreneurship is driven by a passion far greater than the sum of any balance sheet – people & community. His journey led him to the heart of rural Ireland, to the wild & unspoilt landscape of Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim to establish this distillery with global ambition. This community was determined to mitigate 100’s of job losses, & reflected Rigney’s vision of partnership, sustainability, employment & a thriving rural community.
The Tidy Towns committee & local suppliers are all part of The Shed Community.
22 full-time local employees, (many previously long-term unemployed) proudly slow-distill & hand-bottle Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin for over 25 international markets stretching from London to New York, Moscow to Sydney.
Soon employee numbers will grow to 40 with the launch of Sausage Tree Pure Irish Vodka, the release of the first Shed Distillery ‘Premier Grand Cru’ Irish Whiskey & the highly-anticipated new Visitor Experience.
