Codd Mushrooms Ltd. was started in 1989 by Leslie and Raymond Codd. The company produces, markets and packs mushrooms for the retail and catering sectors. It has grown to be the largest seller of mushrooms to the Irish market.
Raymond and Leslie Codd were both educated in Kings Hospital in Dublin. Having been brought up in a farming background, they were both interested in working in the agricultural sector. After leaving secondary education, Raymond completed his Green Cert with Teagasc and Leslie completed a Horticultural course also with Teagasc.
In 1989, the brothers opened the mushroom farm in Tullow, Co. Carlow. Leslie’s role in the business is Managing Director and his key roles are finance, customer relations, marketing and strategy. He is also spending 1 to 2 days a week in the setting up of a new UK facility and he is on the Board of Directors of a new compost manufacturing facility that is being constructed in Northern Ireland. Raymond’s role is Operations Director and manages the production and efficiency of the plant along with any expansions or site developments.
