Ciara is a chartered physiotherapist who worked with people with Parkinson’s for a number of years both as a therapist, researcher and Parkinson’s charity volunteer. She previously worked as a dancer and brand ambassador for Nike. Ciara is passionate about improving healthcare through technology specifically in the area of neurological conditions. Ciara has attained a number of international awards and recognition over the years. Most recently she was selected as the Laureate for Europe in the International Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards.
Beats Medical was founded in 2012 and provides a form of sound wave treatment called auditory cueing which has been used since the 1950’s to treat the walking symptoms of Parkinson’s disease such as shortened, shuffling steps and freezing. Beats Medical individually assess and prescribes this treatment in the home daily via the mobile phone to help alleviate walking symptoms. This year they launched additional tailored treatments to treat the speech and fine hand movement symptoms of the condition through technology.
